He piko, he taniwha; he piko, he taniwha Waikato taniwharau.

Kia ora whaanau,

I’m excited to be working within our community. I say our community because I was born and raised just down the road in Huntly. Our communities are closely connected through whakapapa, our marae, shared history, and even our strong pride in Rugby League.

Over the past few years I have worked with tamariki in Huntly, where I helped grow and strengthen cultural spaces within my previous kura.

This year my focus will be supporting our kura by improving school attendance, working alongside whaanau and staff to ensure our aakonga are getting to school and that we address any barriers that may be affecting attendance.

Alongside this, I will also be supporting learning support and sport, helping our tamariki succeed both in the classroom and through physical activity.

Ngaa mihi nui.

Matua Wirihana
